Apple reportedly testing reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 17 Pro
Apple may introduce reverse wireless charging on the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro.
Tipster Instant Digital shared that Apple is testing a 7.5W reverse wireless charging feature for the iPhone 17 Pro. This feature could come in handy for delivering power to the AirPods and Apple Watch in situations where you may not have a standalone charger ready.
The reverse wireless charging feature for the iPhone is not exactly new. Apple rolled out a partial implementation in 2021 with the launch of the MagSafe Battery Pack for the iPhone 12.
A user stumbled upon the feature when he attached the MagSafe Battery Pack to the iPhone 12 which was charging. The feature was dropped when the MagSafe Battery Pack was discontinued in 2023.
Nonetheless, rumours have been circulating for years about this feature coming to the iPhone. 9to5Mac reported last year that Apple had intended to introduce reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 14 Pro, but it was plagued by engineering delays.
