Hyderabad: The experienced unexpected light showers on Thursday, providing residents brief relief from rising temperatures. While the sky was overcast in many parts, Dilsukhnagar, Kothapet, Nagole and Ibrahimpatnam saw brief but intense showers.

Residents in Rajendranagar, LB Nagar, Bahadurpura and Aramghar reported showers lasting around 20 minutes. “It’s been unusually hot for February, so even a short rain like this makes a difference,” said Vikram Reddy, a resident of Aramghar.

According to the IMD, the showers were caused by a surface depression in the Bay of Bengal, which is moving northeast. Hyderabad could see intermittent rainfall over the next few days.

In the past 10 days, Hyderabad and Telangana have recorded above-average temperatures, with some districts being up to 5º Celsius hotter than normal.

Temperatures in many parts of Telangana are still higher than usual, with Kumuram Bheem (38.2°C), Nizamabad (38.1°C) and Jagtial (38.1°C) topping the charts. Meteorologists warn that temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming weeks, potentially making this summer hotter than last year.

In contrast, some locations have recorded a notable temperature decrease compared to last year.

These include Dornakal (36.3°C, 38.2°C same day last year), Medchal-Malkajgiri (36.1°C, 37.7°C) and Hyderabad’s Bholakpur (36.1°C on Thursday, down from 37.7°C same day last year).

The IMD has forecast isolated light rainfall over the next three days, offering possible relief from the heatwave-like conditions.
