SURAT: In a bizarre incident, Salabatpura police booked two persons for endangering lives as they could not properly hold a buffalo, which crashed into a nearby marriage venue and ransacked it.
As people began to scatter in all directions to avoid the rampaging animal, two sisters aged 11 and 9 years suffered injuries.
According to a complaint filed by one Abdul Sakir Gafar Shaikh, who went to the venue to attend his nephew Taukir Shaikh’s wedding in Razanagar of Salabatpura on Saturday noon.
At around 2pm, suddenly a buffalo entered the marriage venue and charged at the people. People started running to escape injury from the animal, which looked violent.
During the chaos, the buffalo hit Shaikh’s two daughters, and they were hospitalised due to injuries. When they checked where the buffalo came from, they learned that local resident Naeem alias Fatya Kureshi brought this buffalo, and it escaped while he was bringing it down.
As Kureshi could not control the buffalo with the rope tied to it, the animal escaped in fear and became violent.
Police explained that their careless handling caused the buffalo to escape and create chaos. “We have come to know that Kureshi brought it in a tempo from Rander to sell it to earn a commission.
When Kureshi was bringing it down, he could not control it. We have given notice to Kureshi and the driver,” said a Salabatpura police officer.
