New Delhi: India has achieved a remarkable milestone in healthcare with the successful completion of two world-first robotic cardiac telesurgeries in just two days. This groundbreaking accomplishment was made possible through a 3 Surgical Robotic System, bridging the distance between Gurugram and Jaipur, separated by 286 kilometers.
The SSI Mantra 3Telerobotic-assisted Internal Mammary Artery Harvesting (IMAH) procedure was completed in just 58 minutes, demonstrating precision and efficiency with a latency of under 40 milliseconds.
A statement claimed that it’s the world’s first Robotic Beating Heart Totally Endoscopic Coronary Artery Bypass (TECAB) which was also performed remotely, showcasing seamless teamwork and redefining standards for remote surgical care.
“The SSI Mantra 3 is the only robotic system globally to receive regulatory approval for telesurgery and tele-proctoring from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). This technological breakthrough paves the way for remote surgeries and collaborative medical education across distances,” the statement added.
Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder and CEO, SS Innovations International, highlighted the transformative potential of this innovation, especially for rural areas with limited access to specialized healthcare. By enabling expert surgeons to operate remotely, patients in underserved regions can receive world-class medical care without the need for extensive travel.
Dr. Fredric Moll, known as the Father of Surgical Robotics, emphasised that this success marks a significant step forward in bridging gaps in healthcare access through technology.
