Visakhapatnam:A sanitary napkin manufacturing unit was inaugurated on Wednesday in the women’s block of the Central Jail in Visakhapatnam in collaboration with a voluntary organisation. According to Central Jail officials, this initiative aims to empower women prisoners and improve their overall health and hygiene.
Designed to produce high-quality sanitary napkins with raw materials free from harmful chemicals, the unit will help women inmates manage their menstrual health more effectively and provide financial benefits to the prisoners.
The Central Jail officials stated that the products manufactured at this unit would be supplied to all women prisoners in the state in the future. Superintendent M. Mahesh Babu highlighted that this initiative would significantly enhance women prisoners’ health and economic conditions.
The inauguration saw participation of deputy superintendents, along with other officers and staff, marking a significant step towards improving the lives of women inmates through skill development and health-focused initiatives.
