Ad-hoc body decides to hold BFI elections by April end

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA)-appointed ad-hoc committee to run the day-to-day affairs of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Tuesday decided to conduct the BFI elections by the end of April.

In its first meeting, the committee headed by Madhu Kant Pathak decided to validate the state units of the BFI before appointing a returning officer to initiate the proceedings for the elections, which were due on February 2.

The panel also decided that “trials would be conducted for any future international events” so that the “athletes do not suffer due to administrative issues.” Former elite boxers may be requested to serve as selectors of these trials.

Meanwhile, the Ajay Singh-headed BFI began the process to challenge the IOA order which replaced the present body with an ad-hoc committee.

IOA treasurer Sahdev Yadav wrote to president P.T. Usha, expressing his objection to her ‘arbitrary’ decision to appoint an ad-hoc panel without discussing it with the Olympic body’s Executive Committee.
