Shaurya Bhattacharya carded an eight-under 61 to jump to a five-shot lead after three rounds with a total of 21-under 186 in the SECL Rs. 1 crore Chhattisgarh Open golf championship at the Fairway Golf and Lake Resort on Thursday.
It was the second successive round of 61 for Shaurya who was the PGTI Emerging Player last year. After three birdies and a bogey in the first nine holes, the 22-year-old Shaurya collected six birdies on the back nine to stay clear of the rest of the field.
“I hit my approaches really well today. I want to keep the momentum going and execute my game plan,” said Shaurya.
Sri Lankan N. Thangaraja shot a 62 to jump 13 spots and be joint second with a 16-under 291 along with overnight leader Khalin Joshi.
The 16-year-old rookie S. Manoj competing in only his third professional event, shot 65, and tied fourth at 15-under 192 with Abhinav Lohan (64) and M. Dharma (66).
Among other prominent players, Udayan Mane (64) was tied seventh at 14-under 193 while Om Prakash Chouhan (65) was tied 24th at 10-under 197 on the par 69-course.
